談電影《笑傲江湖》主題曲《滄海一聲笑》的翻譯

[摘 要] 電影《笑傲江湖》是香港新派武俠電影的開山之作，其主題曲《滄海一聲笑》隨著電影的熱映而廣為傳唱，成為華語流行音樂的經典之作。然而，如何將朗朗上口的中文歌詞譯成英語，對於電影字幕翻譯者而言，無疑是個巨大的挑戰。從筆者在網上下載的幾個版本來看，這些歌詞的翻譯質量尚有待提高。歌詞翻譯本質上屬於詩歌翻譯。要提高歌詞英譯的質量，譯者首先必須提高自身的語言能力，然後力求透徹理解歌詞的含義，再按照英語詩歌的節奏和韻律翻譯成英語詩歌，爭取最大限度地再現原歌詞的意美、音美和形美。

《滄海一聲笑》是電影《笑傲江湖》係列第一部《笑傲江湖》和第二部《笑傲江湖之東方不敗》的主題曲，由有“香港詞壇教父”之稱的已故香港著名詞曲家黃沾作詞、作曲。黃沾與這部電影的導演徐克是知交好友。徐克20世紀90年代初拍的許多古裝電影都是由黃沾配樂填詞的。整首曲子一瀉千裏，暢快淋漓。歌曲的豪爽大氣與電影對於江湖豪情、俠客義氣的酣暢表現渾然一體，蕩氣回腸，最終榮獲1990 年金馬獎最佳電影主題曲獎、1991年第十屆香港電影金像獎最佳主題曲獎。這首歌有國語和粵語兩個版本，國語版由黃沾、徐克、羅大佑演唱，粵語版由許冠傑主唱，許冠傑、黃沾、張偉文合唱。不過這兩個版本隻有三句歌詞不同。為方便與譯文進行對照，每句歌詞前都標注了序號。

一、《滄海一聲笑》的5個譯本
在專業的字幕網站射手網（www.shooter.cn）主頁輸入“笑傲江湖”後，將所有字幕語言中含有“笑”的字幕文件下載下來後，我們會發現《笑傲江湖》主題曲《滄海一聲笑》的譯文竟然有3個版本。
版本1
1.The seas laugh，lashing on both shores.
2.Carried in the waves，we have only the here and now.
3.The heavens laugh，at the troubled world.
4.Only they know，who is to win and lose.
5.The mountains laugh，the rain is afar.

另外，《滄海一聲笑》也是電影《笑傲江湖》係列第二部《笑傲江湖之東方不敗》的主題曲。該歌曲在影片中演唱過2次，但都沒有唱完整。第1次唱了前4句和後2句，而文件中顯示的卻是前8句的字幕；第2次唱了前9句，所以同樣沒有最後一句的字幕。令人感到困惑不解的是，在“射手網”下載的一個字幕文件中，這兩處的翻譯竟然有很大差別，分別見版本4和版本5。
