John:That sounds like a great idea.I’d also like to send an offer to all the big software suppliers.
Dennis:Now You've got the idea. Then we go directly after the consumer. Now I've been looking over these computer buff5 magazines and some of the bussiness oriented magazines as well.I'm looking forward to the day when your software products are advertised not only in the print media but also on Television.
John:Television. That sounds awfully expensive.Do you really think we can run that type of campaign?
Dennis:Not right away, but it'll be my job to make your company grow so you'll want to use more expensive media. But for now, here are two advertisements I created for you.As you can see,the one has a big product picture,a bold headline, and some copy about your word processing program.
John:Yes,it looks very appealing.
Dennis:Thanks. Now here is a coupon with which your customers can request free literature about your complete product line.
Peter:Yes,I like that.
Dennis:The other advertisement I created is a so called editorial style advertisement. Now notice how it looks as if it's run of the paper material. This type of advertisement can be quite effective even though it doesn't look as sophisticated as the other advertisement. Now here we have to be careful so the layout, font and style match the publication it will run in.It has a coupon too but we'll try to make it less obtrusive.
Peter:What do we do first?
Dennis:We'll key both advertisements so we'll know where your orders are coming from and we'll see which advertisement outpulls the other.
Peter:"To key an advertisement",what does that mean?
Dennis:That means we put a special code number on the coupons,so we can determine which advertisement gets a better response.
John:That's clever.
Peter:So you think we can get mail order business?
Dennis:Yes,if your price is right,I'm convinced you'll get customers to order directly from your advertisements.
