WhenentrepreneurPeterDiamandisreadCharlesLindbergh'sbiography,herealizedthatLindbergh'smainmotivationinmakingthenonstopflightbetweenNewYorkandParishadsimplybeentowintheprizeonofferratherthantobeaheroictrailblazer.AsDiamandisreadthat,hethoughtthatsinceofferingprizeshadstimulatedtheestablishmentofthecommercialaviationindustry,perhapsthesamethingcouldhappentobringaffordablespacetraveltothemasses.Diamandisreasonedthiswouldbetheidealwaytochallengetheperceptionspaceexplorationwassoexpensiveitrequiredtheresourcesofgovernmentfundingtobeachieved.
