1954年，當美國著名作家海明威上台接受諾貝爾文學獎時，他卻謙虛地說道：“得此獎項的人應該是那位美麗的丹麥女作家——蓋倫·璧森。”
海明威所說的這位丹麥著名女作家，就是那位曾經憑借電影《走出非洲》獲得好萊塢奧斯卡金像獎的女主人公。《走出非洲》這部電影的結尾，打上一行小小的英文字：蓋倫·璧森返回丹麥後成了一位女作家。
蓋倫·璧森（1885一1962年）從非洲返回丹麥後，不但成為一位享譽歐美文壇的女作家，而且在她去世三十多年後的今天，她和比她早出世80年的安徒生並列為丹麥的“文學國寶”。
