現在的食品安全問題層出不窮,使得人們越來越重視自己的健康。有機食品雖然價格高昂,但對身體健康大有好處,所以還是物有所值的。
Monica: Thanks for coming with me Bobby. It’s always a drag to be stuck grocery shopping by yourself.
Bob: Hey, I’m 1)stoked that you called. I love grocery shopping.
Monica: Yeah, I’ve never got that about you. You genuinely seem to love supermarkets, yet practically have 2)panic attacks in shopping malls.
Bob: What can I say? I love food. Your mom needed potatoes, right? I’ve got some here.
Monica: Oh actually, don’t grab those. Come over here to the organic section.
Bob: You can’t be serious. Monica, ①this stuff is such a rip off.
Monica: Whoa, what? A rip off? What do you mean?
Bob: Just look at these prices. They’re practically double the regular prices.
Monica: True, but they’re totally worth it.
Bob: ②Oh don’t tell me you’ve fallen for all the 3)hype.
Monica: It’s not hype! I’m serious, Bob—organics are the way to go.
Bob: C’mon, Monica, it’s just another fad that’s sucking up your money. Most of this stuff has to pass the same safety inspection laws anyway, so what does it matter?
Monica: But there’s more to it than just safety. It’s about health and environmentalism as well.
Bob: What do you mean “health”? Isn’t that just the same as “safety”?
Monica: No no, I’m talking nutritional quality. My mom was saying earlier that they don’t use chemicals to grow this stuff.
Bob: Okay, I’ll give you that. But most of those chemicals don’t make it into the food anyway.
Monica: For the veggies, no. ③But what about all that junk that the livestock is hopped up on?
Bob: You mean drugs? They give the animals drugs?
Monica: More or less. They feed them all kinds of 4)creepy growth hormones.
Bob: Really? Okay, that is kind of 5)freaky.
Monica: And anyway, think about what all that 6)crap is doing to the environment. I mean, if the pesticides are bad for us, they can’t be any better for the ground, insects, and animals. Probably not so hot for the atmosphere either.
