a question phrase indicating surprise or amazement (rhetorical, no answer is expected) e.g. Andy: They say Bill is training for the Olympics in his spare time.
Rachel: Who would have thought?
2. catch [sb.] napping or catch [sb.] off balance 乘人不備,始料未及
to come upon sb. who is unprepared; to surprise sb.
e.g. The enemy soldiers caught our army napping.
e.g. I didn’t expect you so soon. You caught me off balance.
3. taken aback 驚呆
surprised and confused
e.g. When Mary told me the news, I was taken aback for a moment.
4. come out of nowhere 突然出現
to come as a surprise with no warning
e.g. All the problems came out of nowhere. How could we have foreseen them?
5. marvel at [sb. or sth.] 對……感到驚異
to express wonder or surprise at sb. or sth.
e.g. I can only marvel at Valerie and all she has accomplished.
