東漢初年有個人，
複姓“第五”名叫“倫”，
為人正直性廉潔，
美名流傳到如今。
曾在會（kuài）稽做太守，
家務事從不勞他人。
喂馬穀草自己鍘，
妻子燒飯守灶門。
朋友個個誇他說：
“第五真真無私心。”
他笑道：“莫過獎，
結論先請別忙下，
略舉兩例請評論：
有朋友，請我替他謀差事，
送我一匹黃驃馬，
讓我為他‘開後門’。
這匹駿馬我沒接受，
啥差事，我也沒有把他任。
可是我經常還會想起他，
怕他怨我無情分。
再比如，我的侄兒生了病，
我看過回房便安寢；
可後來，我的兒子生了病，
我一夜十起看視勤。
即使這樣還擔心，
睡下了，也牽腸掛肚不安穩。
隻這兩件平常事，
你說說，我到底有無自私心？”
朋友聽後很感動，
逢人便誇第五倫，
誇他真誠又直率，
實事求是看自身。
到後來，“一夜十起”作成語，
常形容，醫生真誠待病人。
To Rise Ten Times in One Night
In the early Eastern Han Dynasty（25—220A。D。）there was a man whose family name was Diwu，given name Lun。He was honest and upright，and his fame es down to the present。When he was appointed governor of Kuaiji District in Zhejiang Province，he never asked others to do his house chores。He cut grass for his cow himself，and when his wife cooked，he attended the fire for her。His friends all spoke highly of him：“Brother Diwu was really selfless。”But he smiled and said，“Don't over-praise me。Conclusions should not be made too soon。Here I will give two examples for you to judge。One of my friends，who wanted me to do him a favour，offered me a yellow steed，begging me to open a‘back door’for him。I refused his offer of the horse，and I didn't give him the access to any official posts。But sometimes I often think of him，and I am afraid that he might hate me。Another thing is that when my nephew was once ill，I went to see him and returned home to sleep soundly。But later when my son got ill，I rose ten times at night to tend him。And even so I was still worried about him，feeling quite upset before I fell asleep。From these two small matters in my everyday life，could you draw the conclusion that I am selfless？”
