英語教學作為大學教育的最主要內容之一，在人才培養方麵具有不可替代的重要作用，關係到高等教育人才培養的質量，也關係到中國同其他各國的交流互鑒，以及參與全球治理體係的改革和建設。一方麵是滿足國家戰略需求，為國家發展服務；另一方麵，也是為了滿足學生專業學習、繼續深造、工作就業等方麵的需要。同時，學習英語也有助於學生提高人文素養，樹立世界眼光，培養國際意識，並有能力向全世界“說好中國故事，傳播好中國聲音”。
《新時代大學進階英語》係列教材的出版除了滿足和適應新時代中國特色社會主義的大學教育要求外，也滿足和適應了教育部頒發的《中國英語能力等級量表》的規定和要求。量表把語言能力分成聽、說、讀、寫、譯、語法、語用等能力技能，共分“三段九級”。量表的實施為我國大學英語教學提供參考標準，教師可按照學生的不同等級，有針對性、循序漸進地教學。同時，量表也為適合我國國情的英語測試提供標準。簡而言之，量表將是中國英語學習、教學以及測評的“綱”。
具體來說，《新時代大學進階英語》係列教材的特色可總結如下：1.係列教材單元主題和內容既討論英美國家傳統和現實的主流文化，更以國際視野探討中國傳統文化和世界第二大經濟體帶給全球的積極影響。
長期以來，高等學校使用的大學英語教材以英美國家的政治、文化、社會與經濟為主題，讓中國學生了解英美國家主導的世界體係。隨著中國經濟四十多年來的高速發展，中國已成為世界第二大經濟體，在世2總?序界範圍內的影響力越來越大，中國文化和經濟概念在全球得到大量的傳播和接受。與此同時，習近平總書記提出，要把我國建成具有中國特色的社會主義現代化強國，成為綜合國力和國際影響力領先的國家，我們的教育就必須讓學生更多地學習和了解本土文化和現實狀況，在世界範圍內“傳播中國力量，說好中國故事”，讓國際社會更多地了解我們曆史悠久、光輝燦爛的文明和文化。
基於此，《新時代大學進階英語》係列教材的主題和內容除了讓大學生學習英語語言與文化，了解世界發展狀態以外，更多地融合了中國文化元素，展現國際社會對中國為全球經濟與文化帶來巨大影響的積極評價。可以說，本係列教材使得大學英語教學的文化視角達到一個更為均衡的狀態。比如第1冊第4單元，我們選擇了ChinaandtheWorld為主題，《綜合教程》裏的主題文章“ShametoHaveShame”講述了一個美國華人家庭父母對子女的教育，希望他們無論何時何地都要以自己的文化為榮。除此之外，中國近年來在國際社會享有較高知名度的經濟和文化概念，如WeChat，Alipay，以及籃球明星姚明等，都是本係列教材涵蓋的內容。
2.本係列教材體現了新時代中國特色社會主義對高等教育人才培養的要求，把英語語言文化學習與當代大學生思想道德教育緊密結合。
如前所述，教育要解決的根本問題是培養什麼人、怎樣培養人、為誰培養人。因此，思想政治教育作為立德樹人教育的核心內容，在高等教育中應該得以嚴格貫徹執行。習近平總書記強調思想政治教育要堅持價值性和知識性相統一、建設性和批判性相統一。因此，大學英語課程作為高等教育中一門重要的基礎課，更應該把學習英語語言文化和思政教育緊密結合。
《新時代大學進階英語》係列教材除了融入中國傳統文化和社會經濟元素外，還涵蓋了許多當代大學生應該積極思考的命題。例如，如何正確地使用社交媒介，如何平衡物質需要與精神追求，如何處理國際交往中的文化衝突，以及如何理解基因工程和人工智能的研究對人類未來發展的影響等，這些都是大學生已經或者即將遇到的問題。學習這些內容既能調動學生積極參與的熱情，更是思想道德教育的極好素材。
3.本係列教材強調知識、能力和素質的結合，具有較大的創新性，並突出了對大學生思辨能力的訓練和提高，這也是“金課”的重要標準。
教育部提出淘汰“水課”，打造“金課”，強調金課的“兩性一度”，即“高階性”：知識培養、能力培養和素質提高的有機結合，培養解決問題的綜合能力和高級思維；“創新性”：課程內容反映的前沿性和時代性，教學形式的先進性和互動性；“挑戰度”：課程有一定難度，需要跳一跳才能摸得著。如上所述，《新時代大學進階英語》係列教材充分體現了思想道德、知識體係和能力素養三方麵的有機結合，教材內容大多反映的是與當代大學生緊密相連並密切關注的話題，課堂教學也多強調互動性。
除此之外，本係列教材還特別強調思辨能力（CriticalThinking）的培養。國內外著名外語教學專家指3新時代大學進階英語長篇閱讀4出，當今中國大學生最缺乏也最急需培養的是思辨能力。思辨能力不僅僅體現在語言表達上，更體現在對問題的判斷能力、分析能力和說服能力。這一重要的能力，不僅是大學生提高自身素質的需求，更是中國在國際上積極爭取話語權的要求。本係列教材無論在《綜合教程》還是《視聽說教程》中，都設置了與單元內容相結合的思辨內容或環節，並提供大量的思辨技巧。《視聽說教程》中SpeakingandCriticalThinking板塊，要求學生瀏覽兩張相同主題卻完全不同狀態的圖片，並進行簡單描述和對比分析，並在此基礎上要求和同伴展開較為深入的對話討論。在《綜合教程》中，各個部分都含有思辨訓練，而最後的FinalTask則是在學習了單元全部內容後，對單元主題進行回顧，並深入開展分析和探討。
4.本係列教材內容充分體現《中國英語能力等級量表》中規定的大學生必須具備的英語語言和語用能力，體現“Can-do(能做)”能力標準特征。
《中國英語能力等級量表》明確表述大學生除了要掌握基本的聽、說、讀、寫、譯能力外，還要掌握相關的語用能力。等級量表把每一級的相應能力都使用一係列的“Can-do（能做）”描述語來描述。每條描述語主要包括三個方麵的內容：（1）行為（描述要做什麼，例如能接電話）；（2）標準（能做到什麼程度）；（3）相應的語境（在什麼情況下做）。
在《新時代大學進階英語》係列的《視聽說教程》中，針對現實情景，讓學生聽懂現實中常常發生的場景對話和獨白，並能依據說話者的話語和語氣，判斷或者推理出事實。在PartⅢVideoWatchingandDiscussion中，針對原聲視頻，要求學生在觀看完後，對視頻內容進行描述和分析。語用能力的培養在《綜合教程》裏同樣得到體現，包括Writing1的段落寫作、Writing2的職場寫作，以及Presentation中的思辨和話語表達訓練。
5.本係列教材在單元內容編排上盡量滿足不同層次的學生學習要求，采用不同模塊體現由易到難的遞增。同時也為適應英語能力等級考試和四六級考試提供專項訓練題，滿足學生對考試的需求。
我國的大學教育地區差異較大，同時多樣性和差異化教學又是教育必須遵守的基本原則。為此，這個係列教程不僅從第1冊到第4冊的教材上體現難易程度遞增，在每個單元的模塊設計上也體現了由易到難的遞增。同時，文章和訓練材料在同一個模塊下也體現了不同的難易程度。

《新時代大學進階英語》係列中的《視聽說教程》裏，部分聽力和口語訓練與等級考試和四、六級考試相結合，在PartV部分更是完整模擬四、六級的聽力題型。在《綜合教程》裏也安排了段落翻譯、選詞填空、寫作等專項訓練，以應對測試需求。

本係列教材編寫組5新時代大學進階英語長篇閱讀4使用說明《新時代大學進階英語長篇閱讀》是“新時代大學進階英語係列教材”的組成部分。作為本科階段大學英語公共基礎課選用的教材，本教材共分4冊，每冊6個單元，還有配套的其他教學資源，各學校可以根據需要和學生水平，有選擇性地使用於教學中。
本書使用說明具體如下：1.本書共分6個單元，每個單元包括3篇和大學英語四、六級考試中長篇閱讀一樣長度和難度的文章。其中Passage1和Passage2供教師上課主講，而Passage3可以安排學生課後自主閱讀和學習。
2.每單元的3篇文章後都配有針對大學英語四、六級考試和英語能力等級考試相應的三種練習題。
Passage1、Passage2和Passage3中的Task1均為大學英語四、六級考試中的長篇閱讀題型—配對題，即為10個從文中摘選或歸納出的statements選擇相應的段落出處。
Passage1中的Task2是針對文章內容的判斷對錯題；Task3則是與單元主題內容相關的段落翻譯題。
Passage2中的Task2是選詞填空，完成本篇文章的Summary；Task3是單項選擇題。
Passage3中的Task2是為部分篇章段落選擇相應的段落標題；Task3則為大學英語四、六級寫作題。
因此，可以說，每個單元的配套練習已涵蓋了大學英語四、六級考試和英語能力等級考試中絕大部分題型。
