Peking University. My GRE and TOEFL results were also rewards of my hard working. In my third academic year, Professor XXX (academician of Chinese Science Academy) was so pleased with my excellent job in his course “XXX” that he gave me high comment and was glad to write a recommendation letter for me.
I am now working on a project under Professor XXX (professor of space physics, once visiting scholar of UCLA)’s guide. It is a Program, which is about XXX in outer space satellites. This is a complicated process and sometimes has hazardous even devastating effects on satellites, with a focus lies in the relationship between the satellites and the space environment. The topic is challenging for its synthesis, which related to the solar wind, CME, magnetosphere, geomagnetic storms, sub-storms, and other complex phenomena. I think it is attractive and urgent. NASA has made even some empirical approaches,
ESA and other agencies, it needs further discussion. If proper engineering specifications are developed, we will avoid great losses in practical application. Additionally, it is also a very good training of my research ability.
Holding the belief that a successful person must have mixed knowledge of science and arts, I enrolled in many other courses rather than those of my department alone, especially in the field of philosophy and literature. I think they are guides of life. I’ve taken courses of logic, modern western philosophy, the history of western philosophy, social philosophy (the justice theory of John Rawls), and psychology. Moreover, I am currently learning French. These courses provide me with wider horizon and views on same issues; prepare me for a better understanding of the world. Nevertheless, they bring great benefit to my major.
To improve my ability to communicate and cooperate with others, I make full use of my spare time. For instance, with the university’s support, I set up a 7-member research group and went to Beihai in Guangxi Province during the summer vacation of 2001. We carried out investigations about education, environment, culture, and economy condition in that district, and then handed in reports. In all those extracurricular activities, I developed my leadership and my teamwork sprit was strengthened.
