No.Allreligionsarenotagainsthomosexualityandmanyreligiouspeopleopenlyaccepthomosexuals.Manygaysandlesbiansarereligiousindividualsandmembersofchurches.SeveralchurchesintheUnitedStateshavesignificantgayandlesbianpopulationsandsomeofthemalsohavegayandlesbianministers.CongregationsintheMethodistChurch,theAnglicanChurch,theUnitarianChurch,andtheLutheranChurch,amongothers,haveshowntolerancetowardsgaysandlesbians.Somechurcheshave,despitethegovernment’snon-recognitionofgaymarriageinmostplaces,beguntoperformsame-sexmarriageceremonies.Thereisnothinginherentlyincompatibleabouthomosexualityandreligion.

Studieshaveshown,however,thatreligionisoneofthemajorcausesofintolerancetowardshomosexualsandthatareaswithahigherpercentageofdevoutlyreligiouspeopletendtobemoreanti-gay.Somechurcheshavehadintenseinternaldebatesaboutallowinggaymenandwomentoserveasministersandtheissuehaseventhreatenedtodividechurchleaders.
