He was strict with us students, but he never lost temper in class, and I never saw him lose temper. His lecture was vivid, humorous and interesting. We all liked to attend his lectures. He instructed us to form opinions of our own and not to follow the crowd6 besides imparting knowledge to us.He volunteered to be the teacher in charge of our class. He had the ear of us as we all held great esteem for him.He was very responsible for the management of the class affairs though he was a prominent scholar. He was amiable and easy of approach.7 Besides,he took pleasure in helping others. He had never hesitated in helping his students generously with money when they were in difficulties. He once took the lead of the class in subscribing two hundred yuan to one of my classmates whose family had suffered from a flood. We admired not only his profound knowledge, but also his virtues. His son and daughter worked in distant places. We a few students sometimes went to his home and spent festivals with him,and he always gave us a warm welcome.Over 30 years gap didn't hinter our hearty communion. He told us some stories in his youth. When he was engaged in writing a book or setting up his theories,8 we would help him by copying some of his rough drafts. He was our helpful friend as well as good teacher.
